Hello my friends,
It has been a little while since I last wrote, and I wanted to take a moment to reconnect with you and share a few updates from KNOM.
First, we’ve made a small change that will affect some of our newsletter recipients. If you typically receive our print newsletter twice a year, you may notice that you got another copy of the newsletter this month. Moving forward, those newsletters will be mailed in June and December rather than May and December. This change helps better align our mailing schedule with those who receive quarterly newsletters and gives me the opportunity to connect with more of our KNOM family at the same time throughout the year. So, if this newsletter caught you by surprise — now you know why!
I also want to be candid with you about where things stand at KNOM. At this point in our fiscal year, we are about 77% of the way toward meeting our budgeted fundraising needs. Like many organizations, we are facing rising costs, particularly for fuel — something that impacts life in Western Alaska in a unique way. Because our communities receive fuel only once a year, we must absorb those costs for the long haul, regardless of later price changes elsewhere in the country.
Even in uncertain times, I continue to be deeply encouraged by the kindness and generosity of supporters like you. Time and again, KNOM has been sustained by people who believe in this mission and in the importance of serving Western Alaska with companionship, information, faith, and hope.
Support comes in many forms, and we are always grateful for creative acts of generosity. For example, a few thoughtful donors include books of stamps with their gifts — something that may seem small, but truly helps us stretch limited resources as we stay connected with listeners and supporters across the country.
Thank you for being part of the KNOM family. Your kindness and support mean more than I can adequately express. If you ever have questions, or simply want to say hello, the staff and I would love to hear from you. You can reach us at 907-868-1200 or by email at belong@knom.org.
With love and deep appreciation,
Miranda
