Sr. Native Youth Olympics

The 56th annual Sr. Native Youth Olympics took place in Anchorage from April 16–18, 2026, bringing together 50 teams from across Alaska to compete in 11 traditional events rooted in subsistence skills. Teams from Western Alaska included the Nome Nanooks and the Bering Strait School District. Events such as the Toe Kick and One-Foot High Kick reflect skills historically important to survival in the Arctic. Traditionally, the Toe Kick helped develop the balance and agility needed to cross ice floes or creeks, while the One-Foot High Kick was used to signal a successful hunt.
