Summer 2025 brought plenty of rain to the region, though not as much as last summer. Total rainfall, Nome airport, about 10 inches, that's one and a half times normal. But the number of days with rain was only slightly above what we would expect. Sunny and warm days were not as sparse as the last couple of summers.
The 11 days with highs of 70 or higher is the most since 2007, the highest temperature at Nome was 82 degrees on July 5. However, all the warm weather came to an end the second week of August, with clouds and cooler temperatures dominating since then.
Now, some places had a frost mid August, though the low at the airport remained above freezing at 34. While the summer overall was not especially windy, there were six days at Nome airport with peak winds of 40 miles an hour or higher, which August 2024 notwithstanding, is more than usual for the summer.
