We’ve got wrestling and volleyball updates in this week’s Nanook Sports Minute.
Starting with Wrestling, this weekend the Nanooks hosted the Dudley Homelvig Scramble. Schools from across the region, including BSSD schools, competed but it was truly the Nome-Beltz show, with seven first place finishers and three second place finishes.
Wyatt Ahmasuk continued his run of dominance, winning the first place match of the 189 class by technical fall.
Brant Bradley, Young Erikson, Ben Milton, Kendall Ulroan, and Talan Johnson also picked up first palace finishes in their respective classes. Kevin Ongtowasruk and Treydon Thomas picked up second place finishes against tough competition from Anchorage.
Lacey Sherman continued her impressive senior season with another first place finish against an athlete from Anchorage’s Service High School. Her teammate, Renee Brown, picked up second in the 107 class.
Over in volleyball, they headed to the Western Conference tournament in Kotzebue. They won their first game against Bethel 3-2 but fell to the home team Kotzebue Huskies 2-3.
Taylor Gorn picked up all-tourney honors and the team earned the region academic award for having a cumulative team GPA of 3.6.
Congratulations Lady Nanooks on a great season!
That’ll do it for this week. Next week, we’ll have more wrestling to report on. Until then, this was the Nanook Sports Minute
