Here’s what’s coming up this week on the KNOM Community Calendar:
Tomorrow we’ve got a double whammy, starting with the Nome Public School’s Board Meeting Tuesday night. There, teachers and community members are participating in a solidarity sit-in as the teacher’s union works toward signing a new contract with higher wages. Organizers have called on participants to wear red. That kicks off at Nome Elementary School at 5:30.
Also Tuesday night is a Strategic Development Plan Update on the Port of Nome. The meeting will give the community an opportunity to ask questions about the status of the project, now at a standstill after the US Army Corps of Engineers halted bid solicitations on the project. That’ll be at Old St Joes at 6:30.
The Port Commission is also scheduled to meet Wednesday at 5:30, also at Old St. Joes.
Earlier in the day Wednesday, Kawerak and Norton Sound Health Corporation are hosting the Fall Festival from 1 to 4 pm at the Nome Recreation Center. There will be agutak making, games, fry bread and raffles.
And finally, this weekend the wrestling team is headed to Palmer for a tournament.
