GCI is helping families gear up for the new school year by offering free backpacks filled with essential school supplies to customers who sign up for new internet or mobile services. The offer is available at GCI’s retail locations in Nome, Bethel, and Kotzebue among others in the state.
The back-to-school promotion is available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. Nome’s GCI store initially stocked 50 backpacks for the promotion.
Each 17-inch backpack is equipped with a variety of school necessities, including crayons, erasers, a spiral notebook, pencils, pens, and more.
GCI’s Chief Marketing Officer Kate Slyker explained the reasoning behind the campaign in a August 13 press release.
“We're happy to support Alaska’s youth as they prepare to head back to school,” Slyker said. “These back-to-school backpacks are a perfect complement to GCI’s internet and mobile connectivity as students navigate the upcoming school year.”
In addition to the backpacks, GCI is offering the first 90 days free for new internet and mobile services, along with special discounts on iPads.
