Joachim Koyuk Carlisle has been charged with attempted murder and assault following an incident at Anvil Mountain Correctional Center on February 6, 2024. The charging documents released on June 26 detail a violent altercation in which Carlisle allegedly attacked fellow inmate Eli Dickson with a makeshift weapon.
The attack occurred while Dickson was seated at a table eating lunch. Carlisle reportedly approached Dickson from behind, armed with a blade fashioned from a broken toenail clipper purchased at the commissary.
Carlisle reportedly grabbed Dickson around the neck and repeatedly sliced at his throat. Despite his injuries, Dickson managed to break free and defend himself until correctional officers intervened.
Trooper Derek Beaver responded to the scene and observed multiple cuts on Dickson’s neck, including one that wrapped around the left side and two more on the front that formed a “V” shape. Dickson received medical treatment for his injuries, but none required stitches.
In an interview with Trooper Beaver, Carlisle admitted to the assault, stating that the altercation stemmed from a dispute over a girl. Carlisle described his thought process at the time saying, “I don’t know. It didn’t really cross my mind like that. I was like man, I’m going to slit his throat. F— it.”
Carlisle is also charged with a class A felony for recklessly causing serious physical injury by means of a dangerous instrument, in violation of Alaska statute AS 11.41.200(a)(1).
Carlisle remains in custody on other charges. His next court appearance in connection with the attempted murder and assault charges is set for July 5 at 10:30 a.m.
