Nome, AK — Only three candidates have submitted their names so far for two Nome City Council seats that will be up for election in October. As of September 6th, City Clerk Bryant Hammond says two Nome residents are running for Councilman Matt Culley’s seat, while Councilman Jerald Brown is running again for his current seat.
Two utility board seats and one school board seat are up for election, as well. “Currently, we have Jerald Brown declared for Council Seat E, we have Matt Culley and Thomas Okleasik declared for Council Seat F, and for Utilities Seat B, Wesley Perkins has declared.”
In order to run for open seats, City ordinances require that potential challengers be a resident of Nome for at least one year, be a registered voter, and not be “delinquent in payment of any undisputed city property tax, sales tax, utility bill, or other financial obligation.”
Qualified candidates have until next Tuesday, September 13th, to submit their names and be included on the ballot for the upcoming municipal election on October 4th.
