A Koyuk man is in custody after an alleged assault last week in the community of Koyuk.
Alaska State Troopers received a report on January 18th that 34-year-old John Charles allegedly discharged a firearm in the direction of a Village Public Safety Officer (VPSO).
Charles was arrested and charged with Assault in the Third Degree and two counts in the second degree of misconduct involving a weapon. Troopers say there was also an outstanding arrest warrant for Charles for failure to appear on a charge of harassment.
After arraignment in Nome last week, a preliminary hearing is scheduled for Charles on Thursday, January 26th, at the Unalakleet Courthouse.
