Teachers in the Bering Strait School District (BSSD) are using school technology to create face shields and masks for local medical personnel, garnering praise from state officials.
Printers used to teach high school students are now producing 1,000 face shields for employees at Norton Sound Health Corporation. Reid Tulloch, a Career and Technical Education instructor for the district in Unalakleet, said there are 3D printers going in five different villages.
The project was lauded by state medical officials. Megan Mackiernan with NSHC says the level of collaboration is unparalleled in Alaska. “The state has been trying to work with manufacturers and things like that, and nobody has been able to get anything going and producing as fast as the kind of Norton Sound and BSSD collaborative here.”
