The Nome Common Council will likely approve some staffing decisions for the Nome Police Department during their regular meeting tonight.
After over a year of conversation, NPD has selected an investigator to bring into the department, by the name of Scott Weaver.
The council will also decide whether or not to approve NPD’s request for an additional dispatcher, also called communications officers, to respond to an increasing amount of calls for service.
The most updated budget numbers for the end of the last fiscal year are now available in tonight’s agenda and so far, Nome isn’t reported as running a deficit in FY’2020. Coronavirus response-related expenses are being tracked separately.
Out of over $831,741.93 reported to the state for relief, Nome is reporting that about 93% or $770,862.61 of those extra expenses were in wages for public safety and other staff time related to COVID-19.
In other business, the council will also begin the months-long process of selling a few surplus properties the city owns, two of which are on Prospect Place.
Nome’s City Council meets at 7pm tonight in Council Chambers at City Hall.
