Two more positive cases of COVID-19 have been reported in Nome within the last 24 hours.
The patient in the most recent case, reported by Norton Sound Health Corporation late on Thursday evening, has been identified by the health corporation as a Nome resident. Health officials say that case is a result of community-spread transmission of the disease. That means that despite the decline in reported positive cases in Nome since the mid-November outbreak, the COVID-19 disease is still active in the city.
The second reported case of COVID-19 in Nome from Thursday is considered to be travel-related.
Local health officials say that individual is not a resident of the Norton Sound region. Though the case is considered travel-related, the corporation did not report whether the individual was identified through the City of Nome’s travel and quarantine requirements.
The recent outbreak of COVID-19 in Nome continues to subside with no new reported hospitalizations. NSHC is now reporting 13 active cases of COVID-19 in Nome and zero active cases in the region’s villages.
