One member of our KNOM family was temporarily waylaid in a remote community last month.
Bob Froehle – deacon at Nome’s St. Joseph Catholic Church and secretary of KNOM’s board of directors – traveled to far-flung Little Diomede to preside at a funeral service. Because of inclement weather, Deacon Bob was unable to leave on schedule and spent several extra days in the village.
Diomede (pictured) truly is unique. The island sits along the International Date Line opposite Russia; getting there is no easy feat. Travel is by helicopter or a dangerous boat ride in summer; in winter, planes land on a runway carved from the frozen Bering Strait.
Thanks to you, Diomede is just one of many communities we’re proud to serve. Remote places like Diomede are the reason that we do what we do.
