Unalakleet man charged with sexual abuse of a minor

A 22-year-old Unalakleet man has been arrested on multiple felony charges, including first-degree sexual abuse of a minor, according to the Alaska State Troopers.

Bruce Eakon Jr. was arrested Aug. 10 at 12:44 p.m. on an outstanding warrant stemming from an investigation that began after a reported burglary in Unalakleet on July 25.

According to troopers, residents reported seeing an unknown man running from their home. After the suspect fled, the residents discovered an unclothed minor inside a bedroom of the residence. Investigators also recovered a cell phone that they said had been left behind by the suspect.

Troopers said information and media found on the phone identified Eakon as the suspect and provided evidence supporting charges of first-degree sexual abuse of a minor, first-degree burglary, and four counts each of production and possession of child sexual abuse material.

A total of 10 charges have been filed against Eakon. His bail is set at $200,000.

Eakon’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. Aug. 20 at the Nome Courthouse. He will be represented by a public defender.
