Listen to this Interview:
“The Mystery Woman” documentary director, Aurélie Pollet, and assistant director, Gabrielle Dembinski, arrived in Norton Sound this week to research their upcoming animated film on Lillian Alling.
Alling, an Eastern European immigrant, is said to have walked from New York City to Nome more than a century ago before disappearing from the historical record.
The teams goal is to talk to community members, gather local knowledge about the area in the late 1920's, and piece together the final chapter of Alling’s journey.
They are traveling to communities they speculate Alling may have visited, where they will host public meetings and youth activities tied to the project.
If you have a story or family memory from that era — or about Lillian Alling herself — you can email Ukallaysaaq Okleasik at info@nwplanning.net.
