On Thursday the U.S. Army 11th Airborne Division is headed to Nome for an out-of-sector mission. We’ll be on the ground with the division Thursday and will bring you coverage of that shortly after.
Thursday at noon the Nome Chamber of Commerce is hosting a member enrichment event featuring Nome Sweet Homes’ Melissa Ford. At the free event you can get to know and learn from other small business owners, local industry leaders, and community experts.
Message from the 11th Airborne
Thursday night Colonel Patrick Collins from the US Special Operations Command North will be on Strait Science. That command is also known as SOCOM North, you might remember them from a massive exercise last summer that caught many residents of the region by surprise. What we're hearing is about a third of the one-hour webinar will be a presentation, with the rest dedicated to Q&A. That kicks off at 6:30 Thursday on Zoom.
Moving on to Friday, the Nome-Beltz boys’ team is facing off against Unalakleet for the second time in two weeks. JV is kicking off the action at 6:00 p.m. Friday and a second round of games will start at 11:00 a.. Saturday at the Nome-Beltz gym.
The girls are headed back to Unalakleet this weekend for another set of games. We’ll have coverage from the boys and girls games on our Nanook Sports Minute next week.
Also on Saturday a week of recognition begins for the 100th Anniversary of the Serum Run. Nome Kennel Club is organizing a number of events including a Sled Dog Story Hour at the library at 10:30.
Saturday at noon there’ll be a series of races beginning with a ski relay featuring the middle and high school ski teams. Later at 4:00 p.m. there will be dog sled rides for kids at the Nome snow dump.
Finally, on Sunday the museum is hosting a talk titled “Diphtheria & the Serum Run: The Medical Side of the Story". That starts at the museum or on Zoom at 3 p.m.
