Aklestad and Olstad lead Iron Dog through Poorman, Alaska

As of 4:15 p.m. team seven, Tyler Aklestad and Nick Olstad passed through Poorman with team six of Brad George and Robby Schachle less than five miles away.

In first position is team seven, Aklestad and Olstad. In second position are Mike Morgan and Chris Olds of team 10. They checked out of Ruby at 3:30 p.m. although they are closing in on Poorman.
Third position is Brad George and Robby Schachle, team six, who checked out of Ruby at 3:07 p.m. They have almost four more hours in total course time compared to Aklestad and Olstad.


Team 12, Christopher Collins and Douglas Wicken hold the fourth position. They are taking an eight-hour layover in Galena, as of 3:45 p.m. Position five is held by team nine, Shane Barber and Troy Conlon, who checked out of Kaltag at 4:26 p.m.

Position six is held by Bradley Kishbaugh and Kelly Sommer, team 34. Position seven is held by Tom Davis and Zack Weisz, team five. Team 23, Jarvis Miller and Jordan Miller, is in the eighth position. Evan Booth and Steffen Booth, team 24, is in the 12th position.

We have a few teams who scratched. Team 30, Blake Elder and Kody Worley, scratched out of Unalakleet. Jim Baldwin and Steven Williamson, team four, scratched out of Kotzebue. Team 19, Chad Moore and Travis Temple, scratched out of Koyuk. Geoff Crouse and Trevor Helwig, team 25, scratched out of White Mountain. That leaves 16 total teams in this year’s race on day six of racing.
