This spring, high school student Sara Bioff is learning broadcasting on-the-job as a KNOM intern.
Bioff is the first of several high school interns who will be shadowing KNOMers, in a new partnership with Nome-Beltz High School.
Here’s Bioff, in her own words:
“My name is Sara Bioff, a junior at Nome-Beltz High School, and I want to tell you a little about myself. I grew up in Nome, Alaska, and am a daughter of John and Alice Bioff. I am proud to be an Inupiaq, and where I come from. …

Excitement is all I feel when I think about interning at a radio station such as KNOM. … I have been in many English classes, but not until this year have I truly delved into the world of writing, so when I heard this opportunity pop up, I took it! There are so many options to choose from in the world of radio, but I would say I am excited to learn about reporting the most.
I am truly grateful to be here today, and look forward to meeting new people, building relationships, and learning the value of journalism through radio. I want to give a special shoutout to my school for making this happen!”
Among the other students joining her will be Nome-Beltz’ student body president, Stephan Anderson. His weekly updates about life at the high school will air both on KNOM and the high school’s PA system.
