Nome Council to Discuss NSEDC Funds for COVID-19 Relief, Other Resolutions

The Nome City Council will consider measures for COVID-19 emergency relief during their regular meeting tonight.

The Norton Sound Economic Development Corporation (NSEDC) is giving another $100,000 in a special Community Benefits Share to help ease the effects of the global coronavirus pandemic in the region. It is up to each municipality or local tribal government to disburse those funds to the community according to NSEDC. The City of Nome is considering using those funds to cover local pandemic expenses that are not reimbursed by FEMA.

The Council has two other resolutions on the agenda, both involving work contracts. The first would award work to Seakers, Inc. to do repairs on the Port of Nome emergency fuel line and the other seeks to approve a contract with Altman Rogers & Co for the City of Nome FY 2020 audit.

Before their regular meeting the Council will convene at 6pm for a work session to discuss the FY 2021 City budget.

The regular meeting will begin at 7pm and will be broadcast live on KNOM Radio. The public may e-mail ahead of time or call in during the meeting with their comments.
