The Nome junior high and high school cross country teams returned from the Unalakleet Invite on the seventh of this month, and the Nanooks’ head coach says there were outstanding performances across the board.
“The boys started the day off, and they won their meet. So, they won the team scoring. Placing first was Tobin Hobbs, fourth place was Micah Moore, sixth place was Paris Hebel, and eleventh place was Elden Cross.”
That’s coach Jeff Collins talking about the Nome-Beltz High School boys team. Collins also mentions that the high school girls won their race, as well, taking the top three spots and sweeping the scoring, with Mallory Conger winning the race. Della Medlin came in second, and Natallie Tabule came in third.
For the junior high teams, the boys won their race, taking the top four places.
“Then, our girls did great, as well. Wookie Nichols took second for the junior high ladies and was followed in third place by Audrey Bahnke, but the girls didn’t score as a team; they only had two.”
Next for the cross country teams is the Nome Invitational.
“This is the largest this meet has been in twelve years. We have over 99 competitors, not including ourselves or the elementary school.”
The Nome Invitational will take place on Saturday at Nome-Beltz High School, starting with the elementary races at 11:30am and JV at noon. The day will round out with varsity girls at 12:30 and varsity boys at 1:00pm.
