Iron Dog Leaders Arrive in Nome; Morgan, Olds First to Halfway Point

The 2019 Iron Dog is halfway done, as the first teams have already completed 1,000 miles of the race, arriving into Nome before 3pm Tuesday.

The Nome Public Schools school board meeting on February 14 brought several action items to the table, including the approval of teacher contracts for 2020 as well as approving a reproductive health lesson for next month at the Junior High.

The quickest six Iron Dog racers have finished their 8-hour layovers in Unalakleet and now make their way 100 miles north to Koyuk, and then another 170 miles to the halfway point in Nome. Mike Morgan and Chris Olds still hold the lead.

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, the fastest Iron Dog racers checked in for an 8-hour layover in Unalakleet. Still maintaining a strong lead are Nome’s own Mike Morgan and Chris Olds, who have about 250 miles from Unalakleet to reach the halfway point in Nome.
