2019 will usher in new changes at the University of Alaska–Fairbanks’ Northwest Campus, as director Bob Metcalf will be retiring on July 1.

Laureli Ivanoff of Unalakleet has reached a wide audience with her writing. She’s made a mark with essays that offer vivid, autobiographical portraits of life in rural Alaska — and insights into the contemporary Alaska Native experience. Now, her work has earned her a Governor’s Arts and Humanities Award from the State of Alaska.
Regional Body Votes to Keep Tier 2 Subsistence Chum Salmon Fishery in Norton Sound Area

More than 40 proposals — covering topics from brown bear tag fees to the length of commercial salmon fishing seasons — were discussed by the Northern Norton Sound Advisory Committee earlier this week. Their recommendations now go to the Alaska Board of Fish and the Alaska Board of Game for final determination.
