A September 11 public hearing in Nome, with Lieutenant Governor Byron Mallott in attendance, was a setting for representatives and private citizens who both support and oppose Ballot Measure 1 to make their respective arguments. The measure would change how fishing permits are approved — especially those for “major” fishing projects.
