Four University of Alaska–Fairbanks students will split $10,000 worth of scholarship funds from Crowley Fuels, the company announced last week.

Gabe Smith of Nome is one of the four recipients. Smith is currently majoring in wildlife biology and minoring in fisheries at UAF. According to a statement from Crowley, Smith’s goal is to have a future career with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game while also working towards a private pilot’s license.

Smith is set to graduate from UAF in 2019.

In addition to Smith, the other scholarship winners are Keenan Sanderson of Ketchikan and twin brothers Carlton and Kendrick Hautala of Kwethluk. All four students will receive $2,500 to go towards their tuition costs.

Crowley’s Vice President Jasper Hall said in a statement, “each of these recipients is passionate about maintaining our state’s natural resources, an endeavor that Crowley is pleased to support.”

According to a statement from Crowley, this scholarship program was started in 2010 and can be used towards any area of study with preference given to the rural communities Crowley serves in Alaska.
