The Nome Joint Utility System (NJUS) lifted a boil-water notice early Saturday morning after receiving lab results confirming bacteria had not contaminated the water system.

The notice was issued last Thursday evening after a water line break prompted NJUS to lower the water pressure Thursday morning. The NJUS is required by law to post precautionary boil-water notices when there is a possibility that bacteria could have entered the water.

In a statement, NJUS General Manager John Handeland said that “we will always err on the side of caution.”

No further water issues related to the line break are expected.
