Koyuk, Alaska

Georgianne Anasogak remembers being constantly on the move during her youth — from Shaktoolik to Elim, and ultimately to her home in Koyuk, where KNOM interviewed her in 2011 for this episode of Elder Voices.

She recalls helping to raise her siblings, children, and eventually her grandchildren. And Georgianne details how she found meaningful work as a Koyuk health aide:

“When I first started, it was more because they needed somebody to help, and I said I would. And the feelings changed from just a job to, ‘Wow. I have this ability to help people.’”
