Regional Vaccine Coordinator Receives Award from CDC for Work in Alaska

One of Norton Sound Health Corporation’s employees has been selected as Alaska’s 2017 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Childhood Immunization Champion.

Jonathon Peterson, the immunization coordinator for NSHC, monitors vaccination rates for the 16 communities served by NSHC, including Nome. Besides ordering and distributing vaccines, Peterson recently established a vaccination reminder card system for children in the Norton Sound region.

According to a CDC release, Peterson received the CDC Childhood Immunization Champion award for his efforts to break down barriers to immunization and his help to increase coverage rates in the region.

Peterson is originally from Nome and returned to work for NSHC after graduating from college in Minnesota.
