Focus of Unity Directs Yukon Quest Sled Dog Race

The Yukon Quest is the first 1,000 mile sled dog race of the season in Alaska – and one of only three total internationally.  Unlike its cousin, the Iditarod, it crosses borders – with this year’s route starting in Whitehorse, Yukon and ending in Fairbanks.

The distinctiveness of the Yukon Quest is that there are two non-profit organizations that run operations on each side of the U.S. and Canadian border. KNOM’s Margaret DeMaioribus spoke with Executive Directors Natalie Haltrich and Marti Steury before the race start.

Listen above for more on the history and deeper purpose of the race.
