Story49: The Lost and the Found

A sister that finds her lost brother, only to lose him again under very different circumstances. And a village that is rediscovering the traditional dances that were taken from them. These are the two subjects of this month’s episode, which is all about things lost and found.

First, we’ll hear from Esther Green, an elder living in Bethel. At a young age, Esther vowed to protect her younger brother. But that vow was put to the test, first during a berry-picking trip gone wrong, and then during their forced relocation to a children’s home in the midst of a tuberculosis epidemic.

Second, the White Mountain Dance Group discusses the challenges of restarting their drumming and dancing ensemble, which was banned by missionaries generations ago. And they demonstrate how far they’ve come by performing a few songs.
