NJUS Confirms Weather Conditions a Factor in Recent Power Outage

Last Tuesday’s meeting of the Nome Joint Utility Board (NJUS) discussed a power outage that happened last week.

Utility Manager John Handeland reported that temperatures and wind were a factor in the power grid malfunctioning. The town of Nome was dark for about twenty minutes, with several outages to individual houses or line segments.

Also discussed at the meeting was the City Council’s decision to pass the water-sewer tariff, which is already in effect as of November 30th. The NJUS meeting concluded with an executive session.

NJUS will meet again for their regular meeting at 7:30pm on January 17, 2017.
