NSEDC Member Communities to Receive Nearly $3 Million for Projects and Shares

The NSEDC Board of Directors is awarding almost three million dollars to community projects and their member communities throughout the region. This award was decided on by the Directors during a set of Board meetings last week.

Through the 2016 Community Benefit Share program, NSEDC will give $150,000 to each of its 15 member communities, after each community reports their intended use of the funds and an audit of their previous Benefit Share spending.

Diomede, White Mountain, and Unalakleet will receive additional funds to pay for specific community projects. Diomede will renovate their power plant by installing five new generators with almost $209,000 from NSEDC’s Community Energy Fund.

NSEDC approved just over $200,000 to be used to remove and replace White Mountain’s old leaky water storage tank. And Unalakleet received $300,000 to construct a regional Elders Assisted Living Facility. $300,000 is the maximum amount awarded by the Large Infrastructure Outside Entity Funding Program.

According to Tyler Rhodes, the Chief Operations Officer for NSEDC, these projects are expected to break ground during the next construction season or sometime in the near future.
