Nome’s City Council has officially canvassed the runoff election votes, as of 12:09pm Thursday. Mark Johnson will sit on Seat F of the Council for the next three years.
484 counted votes, excluding 4 questioned ballots discounted by the State, were cast during the runoff election between Matt Culley and Mark Johnson. The number of votes cast was greater than those received in October’s Nome Municipal Election. Johnson took home 338 votes, while Culley received 146.
The Council’s first piece of business during the next regularly scheduled meeting will be to swear in Johnson. That will take place at City Hall on November 28th instead of the 14th, since most of the Council members will be out of town for the annual Alaska Municipal League Conference.
