Missing Nome hiker Joseph Balderas has yet to be found, but search and rescue teams have not given up their efforts. According to an Alaska State Troopers dispatch, the search will continue Friday to find the missing 36-year-old.
A team of more than two dozen ground searchers were out Thursday on four-wheelers and walking near mile 44 of the Nome-Council Highway, where Balderas’ vehicle was found earlier this week. Troopers report a National Park Service super cub searched by air in the morning yesterday while a Civil Air Patrol GA8 from Fairbanks took over in the afternoon and evening.
Three dogs from Fairbanks PAWS continued assistance in the search Thursday. Two more dogs are anticipated to arrive into Nome on Friday from MAT/SAR, a search and rescue team based in the Mat-Su Valley in Southcentral Alaska.
Balderas has been reported missing since Monday, June 27th.
