Troopers Investigate Two Deaths in Gambell: Missing Woman and Person of Interest

NOME, Alaska — The State Medical Examiner is still working to identify a body found in Gambell on Monday, believed to be Gladys Aningayou, a 21-year-old woman who went missing last week.

Meanwhile, Alaska State Troopers said a person of interest in their investigation has died by suicide.

Troopers said they identified Benjamin Booshu as a person of interest early in their investigation of Aningayou’s disappearance, but the 37-year-old man from Gambell died before they could contact him.

Troopers are investigating both deaths, and the State Medical Examiner’s Office is planning to perform an autopsy of Booshu on Friday.
