Nome Sees Spike in Traffic Citations and Arrests in 2015

The Nome Police Department recently released its 2015 Statistical Report, showing a slight uptick in calls from the public, a jump in the number of arrests, and a significant rise in traffic citations.

There was a higher patrol presence in 2015 compared to 2014, which helps explain the increase in arrests and citations.

Alcohol contributed to just under half of all calls, and 84 percent of all arrests. For calls and eventual arrests specifically relating to domestic violence, alcohol was a factor in over 90 percent of cases.

Tax revenues from alcohol sales generate just under $250,000 for the city, while the total number of alcohol-related calls cost the city over $960,000, not including ambulance calls or calls to the periphery of Nome.
