March is all about Iditarod here in Nome, and it’s the same for Story49. This month we’re featuring long-time Nome resident Howard Farley. Howard worked closely with Joe Redington Sr. to bring the very first Iditarod sled dog race to Nome in 1973.
Interspersed with KNOM’s finish line coverage from 1973, Howard tells his own story of getting hooked on mushing, organizing the race with enthusiastic and hardworking Alaskan volunteers, and what it was like to spend over 30 days racing on the trail.
Tune into KNOM on Sunday, March 15th at 6:30p.m., Thursday, March 19th at 3p.m. or listen here!
