After three months in the interim role, Dr. Bobby Bolen has been named superintendent of the Bering Strait School District.
At this week’s meeting of the BSSD Board of Education in Shishmaref, board members unanimously chose Bolen to remain head of the district. Board Chair Aurora Johnson said he’s “doing an excellent job” and Bolen accepted the position, thanking the board for their vote of confidence.
Bolen rose to lead the district in November when then-superintendent Brett Agenbroad was placed on administrative leave. Bolen has been with the Bering Strait district for about 10 years. He has worked in the district office, in Savoonga as assistant principal, and most recently as principal in St. Michael.
Bolen says he’ll be focusing on developing a curriculum that meets rising state standards and caters to students’ needs so they can be successful. He’ll also be working on professional development and reinforcing cultural connections through education.
