Sounding Board: How We Craft

thanks to everyone who called or wrote in this week!

Melinda in Nome started off our show telling us about her beach glass projects, selling her work online, and shared some insider tips and tricks for working with glass. Carol and Patty in Nome called to tell us about the many arts and crafts offered through classes at University of Alaska Fairbanks Northwest campus, and how artisans throughout the region are sharing their skills.

We also heard from Josie in Nome and Jim via email. Josie shared some memories of a sewing club for youth that she participated in as a child, and Jim told us about the custom sleds he creates.

If you missed the show this week, you can listen to it above.

This week on Sounding Board, we’re talking about the arts, crafts, and do-it-yourself projects that will keep you busy this winter. Whether you sell seal skin hats, make art out of sea glass, or knit to pass the time, we want to hear from you.

  • What do arts and crafts mean to you and your community?
  • What are some of your favorite materials to work with?
  • Do you make work for functionality, or just for fun?
  • How did you learn your craft?
  • How do you use the materials around you in your work?

Join us on KNOM as we discuss arts and crafts in Western Alaska this Thursday, December 4th at 10 a.m. Or, if you want to share a project or cool idea before then, fill in the form below or email us at talk@KNOM.org.
