This week on Sounding Board (Thursday, September 19th, 2013 at 10:00am), we’re talking about the state’s oil taxes.
Governor Parnell’s bill lowering the state’s oil taxes passed during the last session in Juneau. He says the tax structure will lure more oil companies to do business in Alaska.
Some Alaskans believe his bill simply gives money to oil companies. Critics say the state will lose billions of dollars in revenue before any new oil flows down the Trans-Alaska pipeline.
The issue is now in our hands. Alaskans will vote on the controversial tax cut on oil companies. The referendum is slated to appear on the August 19 primary ballot.
