August will be the last full month our listeners will enjoy the Morning Show pairing of volunteers Dayneé Rosales and Lucus Keppel (pictured above). The two are not only a dynamic, on-air team; they’re also award-winning.
We’re thrilled to announce that the International Academy of the Visual Arts (IAVA) has given four of its 2013 Communicator Awards to Lucus and Dayneé for their work at KNOM Radio.
As the IAVA describes, the Communicator Awards recognize “creative excellence in the communication field,” and indeed, Dayneé and Lucus’ award-winning work is nothing if not creative. They received award nods for their respective radio spots (or PSAs) on Alaska Native storytelling – stories of the Cup’ik (CHEW-pick) people – and on safety tips for avoiding bears in the Alaskan countryside.
They also received an award for “Elements of Christmas,” KNOM’s latest installment in our long-running series of Christmastime radio plays. Lucus and Dayneé wrote the play together, from scratch.
Finally, the two also won for their Morning Show segment “Breakfast Wednesday,” which emphasizes nutritious cooking and healthy diets.
We’re thrilled to report that Dayneé will remain at KNOM for a second year (2013-2014). Lucus – about whom we’ll write in more detail next month – will soon be departing our mission at the conclusion of his service year.
As always, we share these prestigious awards with you. Congratulations!
