Sounding Board: Quitting Alcohol

Every day is a chance to change our lives. This Thursday on Sounding Board (January 10, 2013 at 10 am), we’re talking about the decision to quit drinking.

  • If you’re a recovering alcoholic, what helped you sober up? How has stopping drinking changed your life? Why did you decide to quit? What advice would you give to someone who is trying to sober up?
  • What resources are available to help people who want to stop abusing alcohol?
  • If you’ve seen a family member quit, what helped them stop drinking? What can we do, as individuals and as a society, to help loved ones quit drinking?

For those interested, alcohol abuse treatment services and support groups are available in the region. Norton Sound Health Corporation’s Behavioral Health Services provides substance abuse counseling in Nome and rural villages. Call 443-3344 to make an appointment. Nome’s Alcoholics Anonymous group meets every Monday and Friday at 8 pm at the Lutheran Church.
