Pamyua is fighting to keep traditional drum songs alive and relevant to the modern Inuit experience. The Anchorage-based group plays a mix of traditional drum songs, American soul and modern jazz– a genre they call tribal funk, or Inuit World music.
Since 1995, the foursome from the Yukon/Kuskokwim Delta and Greenland have toured around the country and globe. Pamyua has just released their first new album since 2005. Side A/Side B is a double disc that has enough room to express Pamyua’s traditional and contemporary Inuit sides.
