Profile: Stebbins Stories, a memoir by Phil Dunne

Philip Dunne taught in Stebbins for 15 years. When in Stebbins and since his departure in 1999, people in the community have encouraged him to write a book. The memoir documents all facets of his life in Stebbins. Dunne coached winning wrestling teams. He got to know and had some experience helping reindeer herder Teddy Katcheak. As a white man from San Francisco, Dunne danced Yup’ik dances with RoseAnna Dan Waghiyi. A chapter is dedicated to his traditional first dance in 1991 – giving out duffle bags filled with items from an Anchorage discount store as potlatch gifts.
