This is my last blog post. Well, on the KNOM Radio Mission Volunteer Blog, anyway. It has been a strange week of lasts. My last day of editing Casey Kasem, my last Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and now Friday. My last staff meeting, (my last pizza party at a staff meeting!). My last time adding music to our library. Today will be my last fistpound show with my friend and co-host Tuesona, a young woman who’s family unofficially adopted me during my time here in Nome. Above all, the thing that I will miss the most about Nome is going to be people; friends like Tuesona and her mother Nancy and brother Kemeseuk, Wes from the weather service, Pastor Julie from the Methodist church, as well as all my KNOM friends and family. My job as the volunteer music director may have been what brought me to Nome, but it was the people who made this such a wonderful experience.
Now as I am packing up my life here and getting ready to head back to home in Pennsylvania, I am experiencing a strange mix of euphoria, nerves, and sadness. I am excited to be going home, a little nervous about what the future may bring, and kind of sad to be leaving my friends here. It has been wonderful getting to know Josh, the new volunteer who is replacing me as music director, and helping to train him on all the cool things he will get to do in this position!
Here are some of my favorite photos from my time here!
Just two more days. It is a very strange thought, capping off a very strange week in a very exciting and fast year!
