Profile: Preserving and Revitalizing Alaska’s Native Languages

The Governor has until December to name members to the Alaska Native Language Preservation and Advisory Council.

The group will be made of language experts from around the state who will advise the governor and legislature on language policy. Dr. Lawrence Kaplan, the director of the Alaska Native Language Center at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, explains the challenges Alaska faces in language revitalization and new opportunities to enhance the state’s endangered languages.
