In Takotna, Stielstra Talks Attitude, Dogs, and “the Journey”

Ed Stielstra’s staying positive about Iditarod 2011.

Although he’s not looking forward to the hills on the trail after Iditarod checkpoint, the McMillan, Michigan musher (try saying that 10 times fast) says he wants “to feel good about the journey,” and so far, he seems to be succeeding.

After taking last year’s Iditarod off for the birth of his son (who’ll be turning 1 year old on March 12th), Stielstra says the “pieces of the puzzle” came together for this year’s race. It’s been a “perfect trail, really,” he notes, and in Takotna, the musher talked about keeping a good attitude, caring for his dogs, and his goal for the rest of the race: namely, to “have a really good time.”
