Councilman Gerald Brown said that he understood why Sitnasuak would be in favor of this ordinance, and if passed without changes, it (the ordinance) could be seen as limiting other business in Nome’s waters. Ukallaysaaq Tom Okleasik said he wouldn’t characterize the situation like that and reiterated his view that this tariff ordinance would encourage investments in the local economy and boost onshore infrastructure.

Regular Sitnasuak dividends and the Elders’ dividends will be distributed starting on November 29th. Bering Straits Native Corporation (BSNC) will distribute their shareholder dividends of $3.75 per share next month.

According to Sitnasuak, the Court suggested rescheduling the election to a later date after its decision on a preliminary injunction motion is made. The new date for the 2017 annual shareholder meeting has not yet been determined.
