Nome City Council Decides on Local Division of NSEDC Community Benefit Share
The Nome City Council announced this week how it would parcel out the Nome share of $133,333 from the mid-year NSEDC community benefit funds. Those awarded money are the Bering Sea Women’s Group, Leonhard Seppala House Project, and Nome’s preschool, NYO, community center, hockey rink, homeless shelter, and high school.

The Nome Community Center got four separate awards, worth a total of $43,500, to use for the XYZ Senior Center, Camp Crave, the Boys & Girls Club, and the Food Bank. Each requesting entity walked away with at least $1,500, except for the Nome Public Schools’ Bridge Club, who received no funding.

20 entities have submitted funding proposals to receive part of the $150,000 in NSEDC money, which will be the sole focus of a City Council work session at 5pm tonight.

According to the Army Corps of Engineers, they have received one permit application from Bristol Engineering Services Corporation to complete the sewage lagoon project in Teller. Bristol’s application states the Corporation plans to complete construction on the lagoon by October, if their permit is approved.
