Nome Port Commission Seeks Funding for Incinerator, Discusses Fuel Dispersants, Wave Buoy

The incinerator would handle waste from foreign ships — but the Port needs to find a way to pay for it. A new wave buoy will arrive in early July, providing real-time data.

With the future probability of winter storms and the threat of flooding and erosion in coastal communities like Shaktoolik, UAF’s Jeremy Kasper hopes that the storm surge sensors will contribute to more accurate weather and storm forecasts, which could help community preparedness.
