The National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls is held annually on May 5. In Nome, nearly 100 people observed the day with a peaceful march and a speaker’s event.

‘Lock-out’ instituted at Gambell school after gun threat, no injuries reported

A threat of gun violence at John Apangalook School in Gambell was made last Thursday, resulting in a student being sent home. The incident resulted in a lock-out protocol for students, teachers, staff and visitors.
Research shows a significant increase in rabid red foxes in the Nome area

For the past three months, the City of Nome and local businesses have agreed to a voluntary halt on alcohol sales on Sundays. That includes beer, wine and liquor.

Missing Nome man seen alive by Troopers a day before he was found deceased

39 year old Bo Adams of Nome was reported missing on Tuesday morning but seen later that day by Alaska State Troopers flying overhead. More than 24 hours afterwards, Adams was located deceased, and his family is questioning why help didn’t arrive in time to save him.
UPDATE: Stranded man at Shovel Creek brought safely back to Nome
